O Pioneers! entry 3

Nearly done with this book. I have found that it also reminds me a little of "The Good Earth", in that there is a lot of land involved and the brothers are greedy and a bit on the lazy side. "The Good Earth" is one of my favorite books and Pearl S. Buck is a fav. author of mine also, though I was surprised that none of her books are on the top 100 lists. I'm looking forward to continuing this trilogy.

The story is good and there are a few surprises in it considering it was written in 1913. It is very clean of course but there is a guy completely in love with a married women, this would never happen in Little House. I also find it interesting that the main character Alexandra is in her 40's and is a tough women and not married at this point of the book. I read a bio on the author Willa Cather and it seem she was probably a lesbian.

I am enjoying this process and I find studying other material regarding the book makes it even more enjoyable. Though it may take me 5 years to read through them all.

O Pioneers! entry 2

Well I'm on chapter 7 and I'm very wrapped up in this book. It's kind of a Little House in Nebraska. Alexandra is the main character and she has three brothers and are working the family homestead. Alexandra is the only girl and the brains of the group when it comes to wise money choices. The two older brothers I find are major bitchers and complainers, and the women they married aren't much better.

I'm enjoying this book and am glad I chose to start my journey with it.

Day 1, book 1

I have begone working my way through the top 100 books ever written. The list I am working off of I found on line and it was compiled by Leisa Watkins. I love what she did, she took 6 different lists of the top 100 books and compiled them into one top list.

I have chosen not to read them in any kind of order, just read as the spirit moves me. Some of the books come in sets so instead of just one book it can be up to 7 books for one entry. And yes I have read some of these books before at an earlier age, but I have found that rereading a book again is a good thing because you have new life experiences to read the book by.

The first book I chose to read is number 52 on this list "My Antionia" Written by Willa Cather. This is the third book in a trilogy so I am starting with book one "O Pioneer"
